If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." LUKE 9: 23.
The Lord made the way for two Brothers and their wives to be home from the Armed Services for the homecoming and revival at BLACK OAK during the first week of September. They are Bros. Terry and Kerry Duvall and are the sons of Bro. Leroy and Sis. Juanita Duvall. While they were home, they enjoyed themselves in the Lord, and everywhere they were the saints enjoyed them.

Ginger is the granddaughter of Bro. Orville Underwood from NEW MARKET. She is seeking the Lord. Sis. Gayle is the daughter of Bro. Ellis Mason from HUNTSVILLE.
The saints at BROWNS CHAPEL are blessed with good peaceful services; (we found this out for ourselves). For instance, at: the third Wednesday evening meeting, the Lord blessed Bro. Lawrence Brown to exhort the church with the Word of God. Everyone was telling how good the Lord had been to than. Nearly all the people testified and every testimony was how the Lord would do to depend on. One sister, Sis. Martha Castle, Bro. James Castle's wife, told of the time they were driving home from down in Georgia at night. Their car was extremely low on gas and all the service stations were closed. When they came through Rome, they were all worried until Sis. Martha remembered hearing a child of God tell how they were in the same shape and the Lord seen that their gas tank did not go empty. She started trusting the Lord and he told her to "forget about watching the gas hand" (it was touching empty). Home was about 70 miles away and this godly family made it with out any trouble! What a God we are serving!
Bro. Lawrence remembered the time when he lived in Indiana and the switch on his car was out of commission. It was after church on Sunday and he couldn't find anyone open to fix it. He remembered how the Lord had started a pump for a brother in the South. He said, "I now you love me also" as he prayed and he used the switch and it started the motor up "right then". Many more good saints were telling good things this night. It was a good place to be.
The Lord is helping the church at Scottsboro. This band of saints started having meeting in 1970 with nine families. It has now grown to about forty families. A number of these are children of God who were living in Illinois and Indiana and have moved back south. We here call one street (Perry) "Holiness Avenue" because of the number of holiness people living on it, and there are new ones moving in all along. One man living on this street was quoted as saying, "You people are going to take this place over, aren't you?" Who could ask for better neighbors than these?
Bro. Buford West, from PLEASANT GROVE, had a serious heart attack this past month. As the saints prayed for him he felt some better, (for a while he knew nothing), until on Tuesday night he made it to SCOTTSBORO to church. During the course of the service he at one time started desiring the
Lord to have Bro. Jack Denson to anoint him with oil. Although he did not mention this desire to any person, the Lord, who knows all things, had Bro. Jack to anoint Bro. Buford, then. And the Lord healed him instantly. The Lord Jesus Christ has sure been good to this beloved brother, many and many a time. And he is not ashamed to give God the Glory for it
If it is the Lord's will, there will be a Gospel singing at SCOTTSBORO on Friday night October 27th. A number of Gospel singing groups from among Holiness will be here.
Bro. Harvey Rogers and Bro. Ted Dudley had a good time in the Lord in a parking lot in Huntsville. Bro. Ted had been ill with the trouble centering in his chest. It was hurting him considerably. One day while Bro. Ted was talking to Bro. Harvey in the parking lot the Spirit of God moved with Bro. Harvey and his hand went on Bro. Ted and he was healed. It sounds so good!
Bro. Ted is from HUNTSVILLE and Bro. Harvey is from KEEL MOUNTAIN. We have been hearing good news from KEEL MOUNTAIN. We have now been there and we are glad to say that the Spirit of the Lord is there with the good love of God flowing among the saints.
Sis. Ninnie Glover was healed of leg trouble on KEEL MOUNTAIN during this last month. She is from Big Cove. She was in pain so much with it; she could not lie down. After the Lord moved she is doing just fine.
REMEMBERING
Left to Right: Bro. Tom Perry, Ed Jordon, Jim Thurmond, W. B. Guffey, Jim Guffey, Willis Brown.
Sis. Ruby McKenzie is a happy woman. The Lord has been very good to her. During -the third week of September the Lord gave her last child, Roland, the Holy Ghost at MARKHAM, Illinois.
Sis. Ruby was waiting for a call from her son the night he was saved. She had been praying for him for the Lord had made her know he was going to be born again that evening. But she was still real happy when she heard the glad news.
Sis. Ruby
Sis. Ruby was not raised in the way of God but she had the opportunity to be around some of the Lord ' s people when she was real young. She even managed to go to a few meetings with Holiness folks, but she had to sneak around and do it ...When she and Sam married they moved in among a number of the children of God, and she watched their lives real close. Now she could go where she wanted to and she wanted to go where these Holiness families went to church. Meanwhile, she had an ailment on her hands and feet which bothered her often. Bro. Lewis Stiles suggested that she ask prayer for her ailment, in which she did on a Wednesday night. By the weekend it had all but disappeared and she has not had that trouble again in 31 years.
To Sis. Ruby this proved the Way of Holiness was right. She was then praying and reading the Word in her home. But then she became discouraged and decided maybe it was not for her. This was the way things were drifting when suddenly, one-day; an automobile hit her son. As he was being rushed to the hospital in serious condition, she started calling on the Lord and pro-missed Him if he would take care of her child she would live for him. He took care of her child and Sis. Ruby came to the Lord repenting and He filled her full Of the Holy Ghost, and she has been one of His own ever since.
The Lord has now given all of Sis. Ruby's surviving children, her in-laws, and two of her grandchildren the good Comforter since the first of this year. No wonder she is so happy! Sis. Ruby, we are all proud the Lord has been so good to you and we are also proud of you!
A short while ago on KEEL MOUNTAIN, Sis. Frances, wife of Bro. Harvey Rogers laid hands on Sis. Ruby and the Lord healed her leg that had been giving her trouble. One evening she had slipped and fell in her yard and hurt her knees, so much so, that she could barely walk. Since the Lord honored Sis. Frances hands to go on her; she has been doing fine.
Sis. Minnie Bowman's, (from brown's CHAPEL) granddaughter was stung by some kind of an insect on her tongue. Her little tongue swelled out of her mouth. The child's parents took her to the doctor and he wanted to put the child in the hospital. The little girl though, wanted to go home and have the children of God to pray for her. They did pray to God for her and by the time they were through, her tongue had receded back into her mouth.
The last week in August we had some visitors from SKYLINE that we enjoyed, Bro. B. H. Roberts and his wife, Sis. Ruth. Services were good and pleasant all three meetings with Bro. Hoyt Dalton reading from the Bible, telling us to love one another as a brother and sister in the Lord, not as a half brother or half sister, but as a whole brother and sister. Sis. Era, Bro. Shelley Summerford's wife received two wonderful blessings from God. Sis. Ethel Kilgore, wife of Clyde Kilgore, told how the Lord took care of her when her father, the late Bro. Burris Griffin pinned her up against a building when he was backing a car around in the yard. She did not even tell him what he had done even though she' had some broken ribs and some very heavy bruises to show for it. She just called on Lord and He did not let her down. This child of God has so many wonderful testimonies that just edify everyone Services over the first week end of September was very good with Bro. Hoyt being blessed by the Lord while giving us good instructions and encouragement. He was talking in the fear of God. Just about everyone received a blessing. It was good just to be among the children of God and see His works. Sis. Mildred Barnes rejoiced in the Lord. She has been sick for some time. Bro. Hoyt anointed her with oil.
Bro. Lowell and Sis. Bobbie Hollaway edified our souls here. It was good to see her in the hands of the Lord. Our little Japanese sister, (Sis. Fumiko) shouted her hair down. Bro. Hoyt's wife, Sis. Betty told of how God healed her when she was in bed very ill with the flu. This was on Wednesday, and after Bro. Hoyt prayed for her she started her housework and even ironed. That night she was at meeting telling how God had made her well.
I remember the first year Bro. Hoyt and Sis. Betty lived in Florida. One day while she was reading the newspaper she had the strongest feeling that her oldest son needed her prayers. She felt it so strong she threw the paper aside and knelt there and talked to the Lord. That evening her son came in from school telling how a jet plane had almost hit the school. The teacher and a number of the students saw it coming straight at than in the classroom and it turned just in the nick of time. The teachers and the students were really scared. Several of us had children in the school and I, for one, still thank God for working with Sis. Betty that day, and for this sister being obedient.
Last week Bro. Hoyt's youngest son was asking his mother to have some warts cut off him. He had them for some time and they kept getting worse (on his face and hand). Bro. Hoyt told the Lord about them, within two days nine of these warts have fell off and some are still coming off. Isn't it wonderful that the Lord still hears our prayers? The third Sunday Bro. Lowell Hollaway and Sis. Carolyn Summerford was edifying the church and Sis. Rhonda Putnam received a good blessing and needed strength through Bro. Hoyt's talk. The Lord is still sending us what we need.
Sis. Mary Eleanor McLain.
Bro. Harve Pearson's daughter, Beverly is now a child of God. She received the Holy Ghost at STOCKBRIDGE. This family is from Flintville, Tenn. Bro. Jack Case has been help at Stockbridge. The Lord has been encouraging the church here. There will be (if the Lord permits) a singing here Saturday night 7:30, October 14
Bro. Willard ask everyone to come and be with the saints at ELKWOOD on their regular meeting the 5th weekend. The Lord has been blessing and helping them of late. There will be a singing Friday night October 13th, to help raise money for the new church building they are in the process of erecting.
The meeting place at MARKHAM is small (30x60) and it is usually full. The Lord is helping the saints here. He gave Roland McKenzie the Holy Ghost on Wednesday night, Sept. 20th. Bro. Henry is still present and the opportunity has been opened for him to preach to people that know not the way of God. Bro. Duncan Jones said there are a number of the world coming out to their meetings and he asks the children of God to plead with the Lord that he will draw these lost souls to Him. BLACK OAK and SOUTH HAVEN have been a great help here.
The children of God at BUFORD HIGHWAY have been working real hard on their new church and if everything works our all right and it pleases the Lord they will have dedication services in the new building the first Sunday (5tt) in November. The church is located on Noah's Ark Road in Jonesboro, Georgia, just on the outskirts of Atlanta. It will be called Noah's Ark Holiness Church.
All the saints that want to help them financially on the building send your help to J. B. Pritchett 6466 Bimimi Drive Forrest Park, Georgia 30050
On the fifth Sunday of October (29th) the church at SKYLINE is having meeting and dinner on the grounds afterwards for the aged people, ones who are 75 years old or older. Bro. Frank and all the brethren invite everyone to come and bring an old person with you. They do not have to be children of God either. It will be "Old Folks Day".
"I will lift my eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help; my help cometh from the Lord".
There are glad tidings coming from the NYLA community. They started a revival the first weekend of October and they have been preparing themselves for it by having prayer continually. Beside their regular four meetings a week, these saints have been having prayer during the day twice a week. They are meeting house to house and the Lord has been blessing them in doing this. The first weekend services at their church have been good, better and best. Saturday night meeting was good and Sunday morning it was real good with a number of visitors and everyone talking the good fight of faith. Time and space prevents us telling everything good that the Lord did. Bro. Ed William's lifted up the hearts of the children of God especially when he told of how there was a man he did not like when he started to the Lord. When the Lord filled him with his Spirit, the first man Bro. Ed saw when he opened his eyes, was this brother and he loved him.
Bro. Raymond Brewer was telling how the Lord healed him when it seemed all hope was gone that he would live. We remember how weak and thin he had become but .the Lord showed forth his great power. Sis. Mary Lawson from ROCKY BRANCH was in the Spirit of God. How she did rejoice! ...Bro. Paul Simmons from HUNTSVILLE was telling how he had malaria when he was a lad, and he would have those chills over and over again. One day, three saints kneeled by him and called on God. The Spirit of God fell, hands went on Bro. Paul and to this day he has never' had another malaria chill. Bro. Paul also, stated that the Lord God they served back then was still the same and that he would take care of us today. AMEN!
Bro. Arthur Walls, from ROCKY BRANCH, was thanking the Lord for healing his daughter the week before. Bro. Charles Rice also, was feeling the goodness of the Lord and he was glad to tell about it. Bro. Edwin Spurgeon, the son of Bro. Rowan "Mutt" and Sis. Lona Spurgeon of Higdon was edifying all the church just by telling how he loved the Lord and even though most of the people at NYLA didn't know him, they found out the Lord loved Bro. Edwin, also.
The goodness of the Lord did not just last through the meeting, but it went home with the saints. ...At Bro. Coleman Sanders, there were a good number of holiness people by for dinner. The dinner was good, but what was real good, if you were out on the porch with the men you heard about the goodness and the mercy of the Lord, when you went inside with the sisters the conversation was the same, so much so, that one time the Lord moved and blessed than with His Spirit.
At another home, a brother was out enjoying himself walking through a pretty green meadow, when off in a distant hollow he heard a saint calling on the Lord and it was so pretty to his ears, he started to the sound, he caught himself running until he came up close to the brother that was praying. This man had stopped praying but you could feel the good love of God so much they hugged one another around the neck and in a short time they were both on their knees praying to the Lord and the Lord blessed good.
Meeting that evening started off with Bro. Ray Davis rejoicing wonderfully and saint after saint followed with the Lord blessing everyone with that good peaceful love. Bro. Coleman was all over the church loving the Lord and all His children. Sis. Dolly, his wife, was free in the liberty of God telling that "we are covered with the Lord" and "He is all we need." Saints were in that familiar "holy circle" and they testified to the best things. Bro. Pope Vandiver from WILLIAMS COVE testified a couple of times and the Lord moved with him both times. This was a good place to be. There were saints in the Spirit besides these mentioned and they were in the beauty of Holiness. We have not space enough to put all the good things God did, but we hope this much will lift up the hearts of those that read it.
There are good meetings all along at SCENICLAND on Lockout Mountain. But one that lifted up the saints here was on the first Sunday night. Their service was good and after everyone testified they gave an altar call even though there was no one present going to the altar. As is usual, a song was sung. "Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound!" and none came, but they started the second verse and the Spirit of God "fell" all over the house. They sung another verse and a young man who has been going to church here for a short time, fell in the altar and started seeking God. Although this young man did not receive the Holy Ghost, every saint was encouraged in the Lord by the wonderful way He had worked.
Bryant Finlayson.
